Everything can change in a second.
Right now, a family member of mine is in a hospital bed. They're fighting back from septic shock. It's a slow, gruelling process. And we can see exactly what they need.
They need virtual reality. Forget the metaverse. Forget gaming. This is VR’s most important use case: healing. Studies show that VR-enhanced rehab plus standard care improves motor function, and improves quality of life in neurological patients.
Imagine swapping the walls of a hospital room for a vibrant, digital world. A world where rehab isn't a chore, but an adventure. A world where rehab isn’t dependent on the availability and capacity of physiotherapists and speech pathologists.
This technology exists, and it’s proven to work. So why don't they have it?
Here in Australia, VR in hospitals is treated as experimental, not a standard. Why are we treating a powerful medical tool like a toy, when early studies are already showing the value of VR in this context? We have the technology. We see the results.
Yet, patients like my family member are left waiting. This isn't about what's next. It’s about what’s needed, right now. It seems like future of healing is already here.
Isn't it time we let everyone in?
All love,
Moondog
